Where does it come from? To what situations does it apply?
What are its contributions? How is it practiced?


Created in 1960 by Alfonso Caycedo, a Spanish neuropsychiatrist, the relaxation therapy is a set of physical and mental techniques which ally the breathing, the muscular relaxation and the positive mental suggestion to work at the same time on the body and the mental state.

The relaxation therapy finds its scopes in various fields:
  • The daily disorders: stress, fears, anxiety, emotions, sleeping disorders, teenage disorders, chronic pains, phobias, self-confidence, self-respect.
  • The mental preparation: examinations, competitions, sports, interviews, childbirth, stressful medical examination, operations.
  • The health
    1. To control pains, to better live its treatment and accept the side effects, to help in the reeducation, to accompany the breakdown.
    2. The relaxation therapy also allows to accompany the people in treatment for addicting behavior (bulimia, anorexia, addictions).
    3. The relaxation therapy does not substitute itself to a medical follow-up or to a therapeutic treatment, through the practiced exercises, it allows a beneficial support of these treatments.

It learns to relax physically and mentally to bring to concentrate on the listening of its physical, mental and emotional feelings and to become aware of oneself.

It accompanies the person at all ages of its life and allows her thanks to its own resources to develop its consciousness, to amplify its well-being or to favor a better well-being, to improve its quality of life, to stimulate and to strengthen its abilities, its qualities, its values to develop and use its potential.

Suitable to everyone, it is practiced thanks to concrete, simple and easily reproducible exercises in any autonomy in its everyday life, which allows to get fast results.

The relaxation therapy in consulting-room: 
  • It is practiced in individual sessions when the request is specific, and requires a tailor-made individual support.
  • It is practiced in group sessions when the request is more general.

Whatever is practiced in individual sessions or in group, it is essential to make the exercises regularly, daily if possible, to appropriate its technique and perpetuate its benefits.
